Nameko mushrooms range in size from small to medium, with small caps and slender, straight stems. The smooth, rounded caps range in color from orange to amber and have a glossy sheen due to a natural layer of gelatin coating the surface. The caps will gradually flatten and flare at the edges as they age. There are numerous light yellow to white gills beneath the cap, and the stem is tan, flexible, and thin. Nameko mushrooms are firm and silky when cooked, with a cashew-butterscotch aroma and a mildly fruity, nutty, and earthy flavor.Nameko mushrooms are high in vitamins like thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin, as well as minerals like calcium, potassium, and sodium.
